Accident is narrowly averted on the same road where Harry Dunn was killed

The case of Harry Dunn (R) and his killer CIA officer Anne Sacoolas (L) has enraged the British public for it has exposed the UK's impotence in the face of US arrogance

Northamptonshire police are investigating a near accident on the same road where local teenager, Harry Dunn, was killed last August.

In a statement, Northamptonshire police said it is “aware of footage shared on social media on Friday relating to a near-miss close to RAF Croughton".

The force said a “full investigation” is being carried out and “witnesses” are being sought.

The video being circulated on social media – which was filmed on February 13 at around 17:45 GMT - shows a vehicle turning out of RAF Crougton (which houses a US spy base) straight on to the right side of the road.

An accident is narrowly averted as the oncoming car beeps its horn and slows down, at which point the approaching vehicle pulls back on to the left – and correct - side of the road.

Recurring pattern

This is at least the third time this year that diplomatic cars (mostly likely belonging to US spies based at RAF Croughton) have been spotted driving on the wrong side of the road near the base. Similar incidents reportedly occurred last month.

The frequency of the incidents has given rise to fears that the US spies based at RAF Croughton have no respect for the law.

Last August, CIA officer Anne Sacoolas, was driving on the wrong side of the road when she crashed her car into young Harry’s motorbike, killing the teenager instantly.

Sacoolas, whose husband is also a CIA officer formerly based at RAF Croughton, claimed diplomatic immunity and fled the UK.

Unequal relationship

It was widely reported that Britain’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) helped Sacoolas evade justice.

Harry’s grieving family, led by his mother Charlotte Charles, has been leading a campaign for justice by trying to hold to account both the FCO and the US government, which refuses to extradite Sacoolas.

The tragic story of young Harry has hit a raw nerve in Britain for it has not only exposed the myth of the so-called “special relationship” between the UK and US, but equally important it has revealed the extent to which the latter holds Britain in contempt.
