Former foreign secretary endorses General Soleimani assassination

Jeremy Hunt is believed to be close to the US foreign policy establishment

Following Prime Minister, Boris Johnson’s, endorsement of General Qassem Soleimani’s assassination by US forces, more influential elements of the British establishment now feel emboldened to express their true feeling on the issue.

The latest expression of support has come from former foreign secretary, Jeremy Hunt, who has described the terrorist-style assassination of General Soleimani as a “bold move” that can “quell” instability.

Hunt made these extraordinary comments to Sky News, which failed to challenge him as to how a terrorist-style assassination of Iran’s top military commander can in any way “quell” instability.

Hunt made more incredible claims without backing them up. Of note, he described Iran’s national hero as the country’s most “hardline radical” and speculated that the General’s assassination might “soften” Iran’s “tactics”.

However, even Hunt conceded that the US move was a “big gamble” which can just as easily “plunge us into instability”.

“Only time will tell”, Hunt added nonchalantly.

In the past two days senior government figures – in addition to leading Tories – have come out in strong support for the terrorist-style assassination of General Soleimani.

By contrast, other Western powers have by and large remained neutral on the issue.
