Winter tourism booming in northeast, north China

Snow-themed tourism is booming in northeast and north China this winter, promoting local economic development as people flock to popular destinations from across the country.

In Yingkou City of northeast China's Liaoning Province, abundant hot spring resources have attracted many tourists during wintertime and hence, boosted the local tourism economy.

Apart from enjoying the hot springs, tourists can also visit the ski resorts built by the pools there. The famous Xuexiang National Forest Park in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province also sees many visitors in winter.

The park is located in a mountainous area with an average altitude of over 1,000 meters above sea level. Affected by the microclimate, the park has a long period of snow cover every year.

Tourists visit the park from October to April of each year. While admiring the splendid views, people can also go sledging and taste frozen pear and persimmon there.

So far this year, Xuexiang has received more than 260,000 tourists. Arxan, a border tourist city in north China's Inner Mongolia, also has a long season of ice and snow every year.

In recent years, local authorities have vigorously developed snow-themed tourism thanks to the favorable ecological environment. As more and more people choose to visit the Arxan vacation park, a tremendous potential of economic development is emerging.

Meanwhile, in the city of Harbin in the Heilongjiang Province, festive lanterns of various shapes and sizes have been put up, covering an area of 200,000 square meters. The huge display features over 100 sets of lanterns, including nearly 30 sets of ultra-large exhibits. People have been coming in large groups for the festive atmosphere and to welcome in the new year.
