‘Pompeo has been a true disaster in his position’: Analyst

US Secretary of State Mike “Pompeo has been a true disaster in his position,” according to Myles Hoenig, an American political analyst and activist.

Hoenig, a former Green Party candidate for Congress, made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Thursday while commenting on a report which said Pompeo has planned to resign from the Trump administration as soon as possible and run in next year’s elections.

Media reported on Tuesday that Pompeo told three prominent Republicans that he had planned to run for Senate in the upcoming elections.

The report said Pompeo’s initial plan had been to stay in office at the State Department until early spring next year.

It said, however, that recent political developments, including President Donald Trump’s ongoing impeachment inquiry over the Ukraine scandal, were hurting Pompeo and that he wanted to exit sooner.

Hoenig said that “Pompeo is looking for an easy way out of a very difficult situation for himself-stay loyal to Trump and show himself to be disloyal to his staff, or leave his post and run for US Senate, not a guarantee win. This White House has produced the most ideological Secretary of State since the days of Nixon with Henry Kissinger, although everyone since have been part of the US imperial establishment, supporting dictatorships abroad and assisting in overthrowing governments that don’t adhere to US financial interests.”

“Mike Pompeo has been a true disaster in his position, although at first he was welcomed by the staff after the previous disaster of Rex Tillerson. But by being caught up in the latest Trump fiasco with Ukraine he has shown his true self to the department, and that is one who is focused exclusively on promoting the Trump agenda at the expense of more sober heads at State as well as not standing up for his staff when attacked by members of Congress and the president,” he stated.

“In this case, Trump’s agenda is entirely dedicated to promoting himself and fighting the charges of his attempt to bribe the newly elected president of Ukraine in order to help his 2020 re-election campaign,” he said.

“Pompeo’s run for US Senate in Kansas should be a far safer job for him. He served part of the state as a Congressman and a far right ideologue, something of which he’s most comfortable, but he’s leaving behind a mess at State, and something his competitors can easily capitalize on,” he noted.
