Thirty-five people have been killed and four others injured during a bus crash in Saudi Arabia's Medina province, Reuters reported, quoting the spokesman of the province's police.

The accident happened after a "private chartered bus" carrying 39 foreign pilgrims, including Asian and Arab nationalities, caught fire following a collision with a heavy vehicle in al-Akhal Center on Wednesday night, the spokesman added.

The official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said those injured were transferred to al-Hamna Hospital

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the incident, the SPA report added.
