Japan Open: Djokovic ousts Popyrin

World Number one Novak Djokovic has cruised into the second round of Japan Open after a comfortable win over Alexei Popyrin.

Djokovic who was playing in his first singles match since pulling out of the US Open due to a left shoulder injury needed roughly 90 minutes to seal a 6-4, 6-2 victory against the 20-year Australian.

The Serb fired seven aces and won 84% of points on his first serve.

Awaiting Djokovic in the next round is Japanese wild card Go Soeda, who upset Jan-Lennard Struff 6-4, 7-6 and 6-3 in the first round.
