UK loses measles-free status

According to UNICEF, from 2010 and 2017, half a million children did not receive the measles vaccine in the UK, and now with 489 cases being reported in the first six months of 2019, the UK has lost its measles-free status.

Even pro-vaccine parents say shots shouldn’t be mandatory, it should be for the parent to decide, but physicians say those with weak immune systems, like babies, the elderly and children with cancer are better protected when 95% of the population has been immunized with both doses of MMR.

Some worry about the toxicity of aluminum and mercury in vaccines. Physicians say the amount is minuscule and that we ingest the equivalent of a vaccines toxins on a daily basis from other sources. And some worry the MMR jab causes autism; a theory resulting from a study in 1998 which has since been debunked by 25 international large population papers.

Experts say the dramatic surge in measles across Europe is putting lives at risk. Albania, the Czech Republic and Greece have also had their measles elimination status removed. Ukraine appears to be particularly affected, with more than 54,000 cases and 18 deaths in the first six months of 2019. The World Health Organization says this year ‘vaccine hesitancy’ is one of the top 10 threats to public health worldwide.

Measles is still common in Africa and Asia and the overwhelming majority of deaths occur in countries with low per capita incomes and weak health infrastructures. So what happens here could very well cause devastation elsewhere on the planet.

Most of those who die of measles are under 5 years old. Physicians say some parents don’t know that measles is not just a rash, and can lead to brain damage, blindness, meningitis and liver problems as well as death.
