Venezuela's government proposes early election

This week, President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro proposed the celebration of anticipated elections this year to renew the country's congress, also known as the National Assembly. The proposal comes as a response to the opposition-led parliament who has consistently but unsuccessfully tried to remove Maduro from presidency ever since the opposition won the last parliamentary vote in 2015.
However, while parliamentary efforts to destitute Maduro have been ruled out by the Supreme Court of Justice, the possibility of early elections for Congress seems to receive green light by the top-rank judges. Officials say these elections must be called on as they are based on the Constitution.
Nonetheless, the opposition decries the elections, but people on the streets support the idea of early elections.
Experts believe the early elections would let Maduro take control over the legislative branch, so it would no longer work as an opposition platform to destabilize his government.
