To football news, and in an all Saudi affair, Al-Hilal twice have come from behind to beat Al-Ahli 4-2 in the first leg of their AFC Champions League Round of 16 clash.
Al-Ahli got on the scoresheet early as Syrian striker Omar Al-Soma scored with a side-footed kick inside the penalty area 6 minutes into the match. Nine minutes later, Bafetimbi Gomis headed the ball home from inside the box for the equalizer.
Al-Ahli took a 2-1 lead when Djaniny tucked the ball home on his individual effort before halftime. The 2-time Asian Champions Al-hilal once again leveled the match early after the break after Gomis scored his 2nd with a powerful shot from close range.
Gomis completed his hat trick with a curling effort to make it 3-2 for Al-Hilal in the 63th minute. Finally, Abdullah Al-Hafith scored with 9 minutes left, as it was the icing on the cake to register Al-Hilal’s victory. The result puts Al Hilal in prime position ahead of the 2nd leg, which take place next week.
Meanwhile, in an all Katari competition, Al-Duhail were held to a 1-all draw by Al-Sadd at home in the first leg of the event on Tuesday. Al-Sadd took a 1-nil lead when Akram Afif netted in the 30th minute.
But Al-Duhail got the equalizer after Youssef Msakni scored with a powerful shot from the edge of the box before the break. With the result, Al Sadd are pleased with their crucial away goal, ahead of next week's return leg.
