Harry Maguire is on the verge of becoming the most expensive defender in the world, since Manchester United have finally agreed to sign him from Leicester City for a gargantuan fee of 80 million pounds.
Should the deal go through, Maguire will surpass Virgil van Dijk whose last year’s 75 million pound transfer, from Southampton to Liverpool had drastically raised the bar. It would make him the 2nd most expensive recruit at Old Trafford, right behind Paul Pogba who was signed for 89 million pounds from Juventus back in 2016.
Having made 69 Premier League appearances for Leicester, Maguire will be United’s 3rd signing of the summer, after Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James. He's expected to complete a medical at the club this weekend. The towering defender made his England debut in 2017 and was part of the side that reached the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
