Former Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) president Michel Platini has been arrested as part of an investigation into the awarding of the 2022 World Cup to Qatar.
The 63-year-old was allegedly taken into custody in Nanterre, Paris on Tuesday morning and is being detained on suspicion of corruption.
Platini was UEFA president between 2007 and 2015 and is currently serving a four-year ban from football after he was found guilty of receiving an unethical payment from ex-FIFA president Sepp Blatter.
