One civilian has been killed and several others wounded in Syria after a number of rockets hit a city in the country’s west-central province of Hama.

Syria’s official SANA news agency reported that the rocket attack on the city of Suqaylabiyah, launched by terrorist groups, inflicted injuries on at least five other civilians on Monday, a day after a similar attack on the city claimed the lives a woman and four children.

The Monday attack also inflicted material damage on civilian houses and properties, it added.

The city, situated in the northwestern parts of Hama, came under attack by terror outfits positioned in a number of towns and villages in northern Hama and the southern parts of Idlib Province, the report further said.

It said the areas where terrorists held positions fell within a demilitarized zone and that the deadly Sunday attack flagrantly violated a de-escalation agreement.

The report also said that shortly after the attack, the Syrian army soldiers operating in the area launched a counterattack against the terrorists, destroying some of their hideouts and rocket launching pads.

Separately on Monday, Britain, Germany and France, in a joint statement, expressed their grave concerns at recent violence which had led to the death of more than 120 civilians in north western Syria, calling for bringing the “military escalation” to an immediate “stop.”
