At least five civilians, four of them children, were killed in Syria after a number of rockets hit a city in the country’s west-central province of Hama.
Syria’s official SANA news agency reported that the rocket attack on the city of Suqaylabiyah, launched by militant groups, killed four children and a woman and wounded at least six other children on Sunday.
The attack also inflicted material damage on civilian houses and properties, it added.
The city, situated in the northwestern parts of Hama, came under attack by terror outfits positioned in a number of towns and villages in northern Hama and the southern parts of Idlib Province, the report further said.
It said the areas where terrorists held positions fell within a demilitarized zone and that the deadly Sunday attack flagrantly violated a de-escalation agreement.
The report also said that shortly after the attack, the Syrian army troops operating in the area launched a counterattack against the militants, destroying some of their hideouts and rocket launching pads.
On Wednesday, a number of civilians, including a child, were wounded after terrorists carried out a rocket attack on Karnaz Town, in northwestern Hama.
Foreign-backed militancy, supported by the United States and many of its Western and regional allies, erupted in Syria in 2011. Militants and Takfiri terrorists overran large swathes of Syria’s territory before government forces retook almost all of them with help from Damascus’ allies.
