US missile buildup around Russia 'dangerous': Analyst

James Jatras

The US military buildup around Russia is dangerous and should be of great concern to everyone, says a former US Senate policy adviser and diplomat.

Russia relayed this week that the US military has deployed advanced missile systems around the country giving its forces the capacity to launch a surprise nuclear attack against the Russian nation.

“It should be of great concern to everyone that the US is deploying these missiles,“ James George Jatras told Press TV in an interview on Friday.

Jatras said that in his view the deployment of missile defense systems near Russian borders to establish a nuclear shield is part a bigger picture designed by Washington for use against Russia in the global scene.

“I don’t think they should be seen in isolation that there has been a full crest on all of Russia’s borders and in Sea areas that with the deployment of US forces with advanced weapons that are designed to put political pressure on the Russian leadership and compliment a campaign against Russia’s financial system and economy,” he said.

Jatras noted that launching a surprise nuclear attack on the Russians would be madness. However, he pointed out that people should bear in mind that such military deployments were really dangerous

“Now, very few people think that US leadership would be mad enough to actually launch a surprise attack on the Russians. But, it is clear psychologically that we want them to believe it that such an attack is possible. I don’t think people are really fully appreciating how dangerous that is," he said.
