Serbia: Anti-government protests continue to rock Belgrade

Serbia, Belgrade

Several thousand people took to the streets of Belgrade on Saturday in an ongoing protest against Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and his government.

The protest started in front of the Serbian parliament. From there, protesters marched to the City Assembly. On their way, opposition leaders together with protesters removed the construction site barricades placed around the city center by city officials.

Earlier this week, the majority of the city center, where the protesting takes place, was closed due to reconstruction work which opposition parties claim is illegal.

As a result, they removed the barricades and placed them in front of the City Assembly calling on Belgrade Deputy Mayor Goran Vesic to resign.

Protesters started in December and were triggered by attack on opposition leader Borko Stefanovic in November in city of Krusevac.
