An Iranian parliamentary committee has called on the United Nations to take “pre-emptive” measures aimed at blocking the transfer of Daesh terrorists from Syria and Iraq to Afghanistan by the US and a number of other governments, a senior lawmaker says.
In a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres published on Tuesday, Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, on behalf of his fellow committee members, hailed UN efforts in the fight against terrorism.
However, the Iranian legislator warned against a change in “the political geography of Salafi terrorism.”
“Based on real and impartial news and information, the government of the United States of America and some West Asian governments, which have traditional links with Salafi terrorism, are transferring terrorists, especially their defeated leaders in Syria and Iraq to Afghanistan,” Falahatpisheh said.
It is expected that the United Nations would take “pre-emptive” action and establish a fact-finding committee to shed light on this issue, the letter read.
In a historic visit to Iraq earlier this month, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the fight against terrorism is not over yet despite the collapse of the Daesh terror group in Iraq and Syria as the United States is now relocating the Takfiri terrorists from the Middle East to Afghanistan, Central Asia and the Caucasus.
Rouhani added that the hegemonic powers brought Daesh and other terrorists to the region in an attempt to sow discord among neighboring countries, nations, tribes and religions so they could justify their illegitimate presence in the region, portray a violent image of Islam and ultimately represent themselves as the “saviors.”
President Rouhani's remarks came after Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei late in January said the United States has been relocating Daesh terror group from the Middle East to the South Asian country to rationalize its military presence in the region.
By transferring the Daesh terror group from Iraq and Syria to Afghanistan, the US seeks “to justify the continuation of its presence in the region and to create security for the Zionist regime,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.
Besides Iran, Russia has similarly reported links between the US and a growing Daesh presence in Afhanistan.
Last year, the Russian presidential envoy to Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, said there are indications that the US military is allowing members of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group to infiltrate Afghanistan.
“With the US and NATO fully controlling the skies over Afghanistan, there is every reason to believe they had a hand in that, or at least, did not hamper these flights, despite the fact that Washington and Brussels deny that.”
In November 2017, former Afghan President Hamid Karzai told Qatari al-Jazeera television news network that the US is colluding with Daesh in Afghanistan, and allowing the Takfiris to flourish in his conflict-stricken country.
