Iranian neurosurgeons and spine surgeons presented a method for the treatment of malignant brain tumors during a press conference in Tehran on Tuesday.
According to Dr. Alireza Zali, neurosurgery professor at the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, the newly-presented method would use a prodrug therapy that employs a combination of viruses to eliminate cancerous cells. The method would see the employment of a prodrug that can act as a deadly toxic substance on cancerous cells, Dr. Zali said.
"The first patient that has been treated with this treatment also is alive after four years in the project and about six patients have been treated with this combined project," Dr. Zali said.
