Five killed after rescue helicopter crashes into utility pole in south-central Iran

All five people aboard a rescue helicopter have been killed when it crashed into a utility pole in the south-central Iranian province of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari.

The incident took place near Kiar county, located some 35 kilometers from the provincial capital city of Shahrekord, on Monday when the copter was en route to pick up a pregnant woman in urgent need of medical care, but failed to reach the destination after it hit the pole and caught fire.

Three crew members and two first aid workers lost their lives on the spot, governor of Kiar, Ali Fat’h Nasirian, told IRNA.

An investigation team has been dispatched to the scene of the incident to clarify the exact reason behind the crash.
