Warsaw police on Friday forcibly removed anti-fascist activists who had engaged in a sit-down protest condemning a nationalist march in commemoration of Poland's post-World War II anti-communist fighters, known as the 'Cursed Soldiers'.
Antifa protesters had convened as around 1,000 nationalists marched through Warsaw carrying torches and chanting to pay tribute to the fighters.
The so-called 'Cursed Soldiers' were groups of Polish nationalist guerrillas that formed towards the end of World War II to fight against the communist government installed by the Soviet Union, following the liberation of Poland. Whilst most of the guerrillas were wiped out by 1948, some remained and fought against the communist government for almost 20 years after the end of WWII.
