In pictures: Iran marks anniversary of Islamic Revolution with mass rallies

Various Iranian cities and towns were the scene of mass rallies celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution on Monday.

The revolution toppled the US-backed Pahlavi monarchy and set the stage for the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
