The United States has been involved in a war of aggression under the pretext of fighting terrorism in the Syrian territory, says a commentator.

Regarding the planned US troop withdrawal from Syria, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the United States wanted to stay on in the Arab country.

Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told reporters on Friday that if the claims were true, the territory previously controlled by the US should be transferred to the Syrian government.

David William Pear, political analyst, told Press TV on Saturday, “That (the Syria war) is really a war of aggression the US started out as a covert operation going back to 2011 at least and then it has been supplying proxies.”

Pointing to Washington’s agenda in Syria and other Middle Eastern countries, Pear noted the American authorities have used the “war on terror” in order to invade countries illegally, whereas “the US was the one sponsoring al-Qaeda, which morphed into Daesh.”

The US is the number one offender and it is meddling in internal affairs of other countries, the analyst noted.
