Relations between Turkey and Israel have not always been what one would call cordial but the two sides have to some extent maintained diplomatic ties.
Turkey, a Muslim majority country, is a supporter of Palestinians and their cause and considers Israel an occupying force. Turkish President Reccep Tayyib Erdogan has made no secret of his disdain for how Israel treats Palestinians. The two sides have clashed over different issues since Erdogan came to power in 2003. The latest spat began when Erdogan once again slammed the quote lawless Israeli occupation of Palestine and the way the Israeli military treats Palestinian men, women and children.
