US opposes inter-Korean rapprochement

South Korea has started dismantling guard posts in the Demilitarized Zone separating the two Koreas amid push to defuse tensions.

South Korea has some 60 military posts in the Demilitarized Zone, while the North has about 160 such posts there. The dismantling is part of a military deal reached in September during an inter-Korean summit in Pyongyang. Washington has expressed unease over the measures, saying there is a reasonable degree of risk in Seoul’s plans to dismantle the posts.

Press TV’s correspondent Frank Smith says the US is against any renewal of relations between South Korea and North Korea.
