Pakistan’s military has handed over the control of the scenic Swat valley in the northwest of the country to a civilian government after a decade-long campaing against pro-Taliban militants there. Swat, known as Pakistan’s Switzerland, was the scene of bloody clashes between security forces and pro-Taliban militants between 2007 to 2009, and the insecurity persisted until recently.
