Poland: Thousands march for higher wages in Warsaw

Thousands of people have taken to the streets of Warsaw, Poland, to demonstrate for higher wages, improved working conditions and better pensions.

The protest was organised by the All-Poland Alliance of Trade Unions (OPZZ), and involved people from a range of sectors, including government officials, teachers, farmers and medical workers.

"We have had enough of another authority that lies to society and does not keep their word, whose motto is arrogance, brashness and boorishness," said Slawomir Lukasiewicz, a trade union speaker.

The OPZZ organizes annual protests but this demonstration had special significance with upcoming local elections due in Warsaw, Poland's capital and largest city.
