US Iran policy unrealistic: Pundit

US officials in the Trump administration are unable to deal with realities when it comes to adopting Iran policy, says a commentator.

Michael Springmann, former US diplomat, told Press TV on Friday that “they (US politicians) do not understand reality, they do not understand foreign affairs, they do not understand foreign policy” and then they do what Israelis want them to do in dealing with Iran.

“So, you have got people that do not know what is going on and do not know the countries they are working with and suddenly want to make policy for them.”

For instance, Springmann said, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s 12-Point Program in May essentially is a declaration of war against Iran with the demands for inspections and controls.

And Director of Policy Planning and Senior Policy Advisor to Secretary of State Brian Hook’s background is basically academia with a degree in philosophy and “he knows nothing about foreign affairs,” so,” the [US] government is just going from bad to worse.”

The United States has announced its readiness to hold talks with the Islamic Republic to reach a treaty with Tehran, whereas Donald Trump on May 8, 2018 pulled out of the internationally recognized nuclear agreement with Iran, officially called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
