There are some influential elements in the current US administration who are against President Donald Trump’s policy of negotiating with North Korea, says a commentator.

“Donald Trump really wants to have a deal with North Korea, but I think some of the people in his administration do not,” James Jatras, a former US Senate foreign policy analyst, told Press TV.

Jatras said the camp inside Trump's administration believe that Washington should be more focused on Russia and China.

Since Moscow and Beijing support Pyongyang in face of American bullying policies, “It is more important for them (some American officials) to further their confrontation with Russia and China in particular,” he added.

According to the analyst, the same camp are pressing ahead with a set of their own policies which are independent from Trump's agenda.

“There are two polices coming out of Washington,” Jatras said. "They include President Trump’s personal strategy and the effective policy of the people around him, who are essentially backing sanctions and military power.”
