The Iran men’s national basketball B team has claimed the second place overall at the end of the 2018 William Jones Cup in Taiwan.
The Iranian squad defeated Ateneo Blue Eagles of the Philippines 70-30 in a match staged at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium of New Taipei City on Sunday afternoon.
The Iranian basketball players outscored the Philippine outfit 15-14 in the first quarter.
The Iranian team lost the lead in the second quarter, and Ateneo Blue Eagles players utilizing some quality offensive breaks to win it 25-16.
The Iranian sportsmen regained their lead in the third quarter, and claimed it by 23 points to 11.
The final quarter played out much like the previous, and Iranians managed to edge past their Southeast Asian opponents 16-13.
Also on Sunday, Canada’s 3D Global Sports could beat Japan B 99-84 (32-22, 20-12, 24-26 and 23-21) to clinch the title.
The 2018 William Jones Cup started on July 14 and concluded on July 22. The event is a top-level international basketball tournament of FIBA Asia.
