The Iran men’s national under-18 volleyball team has missed out a place in the final round of the 2018 Asian Boys' U18 Volleyball Championship, after it could not triumph over the Japanese side in the semifinals.
On Thursday evening, the Iranian outfit, which had Bardiya Sa’adat, Mohammad Valizadeh, Soheil Masoud, Amirhossein Hemmati, Ramin Shahnavaz, Komeil Akbari and Alireza Abdolladi in its initial lineup for the semifinal fixture at the indoor Shahid Poursharifi Arena in northwestern Iranian city of Tabriz, sustained a 1-3 (20-25, 22-25, 27-25 and 16-25) loss from Japan.
The Japanese team started the game vigorously, and took an early lead over the Iranian squad. The hosts, in return, sought to reduce the margin.
The Japanese volleyball players built up momentum afterwards, and finally claimed the first set at 25-20.
The Japanese players imposed the pace again in the second set, and took the set 25-22.
The third set started with Iran coming from behind to accumulate points. The hosts played great defense and fine counter-attack, and won the set 27-25 at last.
The Japanese team reclaimed its lead in the final set, and went on racking up points to finally clinch a 25-16 victory.
The Iran men’s national under-18 volleyball team will take on Chinese Taipei in a third-place match on Friday afternoon.
The 2018 Asian Boys' U18 Volleyball Championship kicked off on June 29, and will run through July 6.
