Iran’s Alipour gets bronze in 2018 FISU World University Sport Climbing Championship

Iranian speed climber Mehdi Alipour Shenazandifard has put on convincing displays at the 2018 Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU) World University Sport Climbing Championship, and finished in the third slot overall to bag a bronze medal.

On Friday, Alipour Shenazandifard took part in the men’s speed competitions, and set 6.58 to get the third place of the chart at the prestigious sporting event.

Ukraine’s Kostiantyn Pavlenko clocked 6.41 seconds to land in the second spot and collect the silver medal.

Jan Kriz from the Czech Republic claimed the top position of the chart, having set the time of 6.31 seconds.

The 2018 FISU World University Sport Climbing Championship kicked off in Bratislava, Slovakia, on June 20 and will run through June 23, 2018.

The tournament is being held in women’s lead, women’s bouldering, women’s speed, men’s lead, men’s bouldering and men’s speed sections.

Speed climbing is a race in its purest form. Two contestants face each other while moving up the ice in this disciple, and the faster climber wins.

Bouldering is a form of rock climbing that is performed without the use of ropes or harnesses. Most climbers, however, use climbing shoes to help secure footholds, chalk to keep their hands dry, and mats to prevent injuries from falls.

Lead climbing, on the other hand, emphasizes on strength and techniques. Climbers go up the ice alone and try to reach a specific end point within a given amount of time.

To practice the sport at the highest level of competition, it takes athletes with strategic insight, power, precision and full commitment.
