Iranians secure four more medals at Asian Junior Athletics Championships

Young Iranian sportsmen have delivered remarkable performances at the 18th edition of Asian Junior Athletics Championships in Japan, and got three more medals to lift the Islamic Republic’s medal count to five at the continental event.

Hossein Rasouli took part in discus throw competitions in the central Japanese city of Gifu, and recorded a throw of 62.29 meters to be awarded the gold medal.

Mohamed Ibrahim Moaaz from Qatar threw the discus 61.50 meters to finish as vice champion and pocket silver.

Japan’s Kosei Yamashita settled for the bronze medal with 56.51 meters.

Abdolrahim Dorzadeh also clocked 1:54.23 in the 800-meter race, and landed in the second position to collect the silver medal.

Indian Anu Kumar registered 1:54.11 and clinched the gold medal, while Fuki Torii came third, having recorded 1:54.55.

Additionally, Mahdi Pirjahan managed to earn a bronze medal in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.18.

Japanese athlete Yusuke Shirao and Bassem Hemeida clocked 50.52 and 50.55 respectively, and ranked first and second.

Separately, Iranian runner Seyyed Amir Zamanpour clocked 14:25.25 minutes in the finals of men’s 5000-meter run and collected the bronze medal.

Indian and Japanese contestants Ajeet Kumar and Ren Tazawa won the gold and silver medals respectively, having set the time of 14:15.24 and 14:17.26.

Earlier in the tournament, Rayhaneh Arani had hurled the hammer to a distance of 55.46 meters to beat the previous national junior record, and claim the third spot in the women’s section.

Zhou Mengyuan and Li Jiangyan, both from China, finished in the first and second positions, recording 64.81 and 61.44 meters respectively.

The 18th edition of Asian Junior Athletics Championships kicked off on June 7, and ran through June 10, 2018.
