The deaths of scores of Sudanese troops and three of their commanding officers in the north of Yemen was one of the single largest loss of lives for soldiers fighting under the Saudi-led umbrella in the war on Yemen. For many political observers, it was the first time they would have been aware of the significant presence of Sudanese forces in the conflict.
Back home in Sudan, there was a wide outcry from the public and opposition politicians.
