The Iran women's national futsal team has clinched another emphatic win at the preliminary round of the 2018 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women's Futsal Championship, and proudly advanced to the knockout stage of the continental tournament.
On Monday, the Iranian sportswomen hammered their Uzbek counterparts 9-2 in their last Group D fixture at Indoor Stadium Huamark in the Thai capital city of Bangkok.
The Iranian outfit dominated from the start, and scored three goals in the first three minutes.
Iran added a fourth goal, when Fatemeh Etedadi pounced on a loose ball after Uzbek field player Iradahon Turdalieva spilled a shot in the 10th minute.
Uzbekistan found a series of tremendous scoring opportunities later on, and one excellent one for Lyudmila Karachik late in the first half. However, it could not get a goal.
Four minutes into the second period, Iran’s Sara Shirbeigi found the empty net after winning possession deep inside her own half, and hit the back of the net.
Fatemeh Arzhangi made it 6-0 when she teamed up nicely with Arezou Sadaghianizadeh a minute later.
The Uzbekistan women's national futsal team continued its search for a goal despite the heavy deficit, and Rushaniya Safina finally scored in the 30th minute to make it 6-1 and break the Central Asians’ deadlock.
Safina found a great chance to score again moments later, but Iranian goalkeeper Farzaneh Tavasoli intervened and crushed her dream.
Shirbeigi once again brilliantly fired into the empty net from long range to complete her hat-trick in the 32nd minute. Etedadi tacked another goal for Iran two minutes later.
Uzbekistan’s Maftuna Shoyimova then took the chance to score from the penalty spot in the 38th minute.
In the closing moments of the match, Fereshteh Khosravi’s back post tap rounded out the scoring at 9-2.
The Iranian women's national futsal team is scheduled to face China in a quarter-final fixture on Wednesday.
The 2018 AFC Women's Futsal Championship, which is the second edition of the international event, started on May 2 and will close on May 12, 2018.
