US court fines Iran over 9/11
America’s animosity against Iran is taking new angles. This time, Washington is pushing ahead a campaign to portray Iran involved in 9/11 terrorist attacks.
A federal judge in New York has ordered Iran to pay six billion dollars to the relatives of the victims of the bombings. The lawsuit claims that Iran provided technical assistance, training and planning to the al-Qaeda operatives that conducted 9/11.
This is while an official investigation on the attacks has already made it clear that no link exists between the Islamic Republic and the terrorists.
Lebanon elections
After nearly a decade of turbulent politics, Lebanese voters are preparing to cast their ballots in general elections scheduled for May 6. Eligible voters will choose from among 583 candidates vying for the parliament's 128 seats. Under Lebanon’s sect-based political system, the parliament's seats are equally divided between Muslims and Christians. The president must be a Maronite Christian, the prime minister a Sunni Muslim and the parliament speaker a Shia Muslim.
