UNSC rejects anti-Iran bid over Yemen allegations

Russia last week vetoed a UN Security Council resolution blaming Iran for arming Yemen's Houthi Ansarullah movement. Russian Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia told the Council, "We cannot concur with uncorroborated conclusions and evidence which requires verification and discussions within the sanctions committee."The Russian veto has been interpreted as a defeat for the United States, which has been lobbying for months to hold Iran accountable at the UN. After this failure, the United States threatened unilateral action against Iran. US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said, “If we’re not going to get action on the council, then we have to take our own actions.”

Discontent in Washington over Trump’s nepotism

One of US President Donald Trump’s most senior advisors is his son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Trump has also appointed his daughter Ivanka as a White House advisor. The two have taken on key responsibilities, with some critics branding Trump’s White House as a family business. Jared Kushner has been acting far beyond an advisor. He’s been deeply involved in foreign affairs. For instance, Kushner has been in charge of America’s diplomacy in the Israeli-Palestinian issue. Some say Trump’s emerging plan for the Middle East which included America’s recognition of Jerusalem al-Quds as Israel’s capital is being devised by his son in law. But not everyone in the White House is happy with Kushner’s interventions.
