Iranian freestyle wrestlers have featured notable displays of physical might and grappling skills at the 2018 Asian Wrestling Championships in Kyrgyzstan, and scooped two medals.
On Saturday and the fifth day of the continental sporting event at the Kozhomkul Sports Palace in the Kyrgyz capital city of Bishkek, Iranian wrestler Ezzatollah Abbas Akbari Zarinkolaei downed his Uzbek opponent Rashid Kurbanov 5-0 in the final bout of the 79-kilogram weight category, and received the gold medal.
Turbold Ganbold from Mongolia and Japanese wrestler Tsubasa Asai shared the bronze medal.
Furthermore, Mojtaba Mohammadshafie Goleij lost 3-5 to Uzbekistan’s
Magomed Idrisovitch Ibragimov in the 97-kilogram weight division, and collected the silver medal.
South Korean Jaegang Kim and Japan’s Takeshi Yamaguchi had to settle with the bronze medal.
The 2018 Asian Wrestling Championships started on February 27, and will finish on March 4, 2018.
The tournament has attracted dozens of male and female Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestlers from various Asian countries, namely China, India, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Iraq, Japan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
