Iran squad vice champion in World Cup Sabre de Wolodyjowski 2018

The Iranian men's national sabre team has delivered great displays of athletic skills and agility at the World Cup Sabre de Wolodyjowski 2018 in Poland, and finished as the vice champion of the high-status event. 

On Sunday, the Iranian squad, comprised of Mojtaba Abedini, Farzad Baher Aresbaran, Ali Pakdaman Esmaeilzadeh and Mohammad Rahbari, conceded a 31-45 to the South Korean outfit in the final showdown of the senior team men's sabre section, and scooped the silver medal.

Hungary also overcame Russia in the bronze medal contest, and claimed the third place.

Meanwhile, 27-year-old Iranian fencer Ali Pakdaman Esmaeilzadeh did not manage to overcome Gu Bongil from South Korea in his last encounter of the senior men's sabre event, and received a bronze medal.

The World Cup Sabre de Wolodyjowski 2018 kicked off on February 23, and came to a close on February 25, 2018.

The tournament reportedly attracted more than 200 fencers from various world countries, including Belarus, China, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Italy, Japan, Poland, Russia, South Korea, Turkey, the United States and Vietnam.

Sabre is a light cutting and thrusting weapon in the sport of fencing. In the sabre section, the entire body above the waist, except the weapon hand, is targeted. Hits with the entire blade or point are valid. Touches that land outside of the target area are not scored.
