Iranian sportsmen and women continue to bring honor to their country through laudable performances at the ongoing eighth edition of the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Iran, and received thirteen more medals to boost the Islamic Republic’s medal count to 18 at the international multi-sport event.
On Friday, Ali Samari thrilled the spectators at Aftab-e Enghelab Sport Complex in the Iranian capital city of Tehran, and recorded a throw of 19.42 meters in the final of men's shot put competitions, and snatched the gold medal.
Tajinder Pal Singh Toor from India marked 19.18 meters to receive the silver.
Wu Zhiqiang, a shot putter from China, won the bronze medal with his best throw of 18.81 meters.
Moreover, Milad Miri participated in the men’s 1000-meter heptathlon contests, and accumulated 4,842 points to snatch the silver medal.
Majid Alizade stood atop the podium with a total of 5,228 points.
The bronze went to Ali Mohebbi, also from the Islamic Republic of Iran, having collected 4,728 points.
Iranian pitcher Mohammad Baniadam also received a silver medal, and a representative from Kazakhstan hurled the javelin to strike the gold.
A Kuwaiti contestant picked up the bronze medal.
Pejman Yarvali also clocked 1:52.80 in the men's 800-meter race, and landed in the second position to be awarded the silver medal.
Abubaker Haydar Abdalla from Qatar got the gold medal, having set the time of 1:51.98.
Kuwait’s Ebrahim Remaid al-Zofairi marked 1:52.97, and earned the bronze.
Additionally, Elnaz Kampani, Mahsa Mirza Tayyebi and Maryam Norouzi also scooped three silver medals in the women’s 60-meter hurdle, women’s pole vault and women’s shot put heats respectively.
Farzaneh Fasihi, Sara Nadafi, Sara Karimi, Niloufar Fashkhorani and Sana Dadras bagged five bronzes in women’s 60-meter race, women’s 60-meter hurdle, women’s pole vault, women’s pole vault and women’s shot put competitions respectively as well.
The eighth edition of the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships started on February 1, and will finish on February 3, 2018.
The tournament has reportedly brought together 360 male and female athletes from 22 countries, including China, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
