Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has in his latest remarks said certain regional governments, including Saudi Arabia, are committing treason by cooperating with the United States and Israel against their Muslim brethren. The Leader highlighted the cause of Palestine as the main issue of the Muslim world, criticizing the US for overstepping its boundaries on the issue of Jerusalem al-Quds. Press TV has asked Syed Mohsin Abbas, journalist and political commentator, as well as Nabil Mikhail, lecturer at George Washington University, to share their opinions.
Syed Mohsin Abbas believes it is very clear that Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt are working to ensure the interests of the United States, and that their policies are dictated to them by Washington.
Monarchs, who rule over these nations, may claim that they are working to protect their own geopolitical interests in the region, but the reality is that they are only the “puppets” of the United States.
The commentator further maintained that the United States is continuing to implement its “divide and rule” strategy in the region through its vassal state, Saudi Arabia.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Abbas described Israel as the “fundamental cancer” in the region, adding that the declaration of Jerusalem al-Quds as its capital proves that the United States is serving the purpose of Israel rather than making endeavors towards peace.
Back in December 2017, US President Donald Trump defied global warnings and said Washington formally recognized Jerusalem al-Quds as the “capital” of Israel and would soon begin the process of moving its embassy to the occupied city.
Abbas also dismissed the fallacy of a two-state solution, emphasizing that Palestinians should resist Washington’s “devious and conning game” which deprives them of their right of return.
He concluded by saying that Americans, Israelis and Saudis cannot be trusted to negotiate a peace deal for Palestinians, because they are working in tandem to create a good cop/bad cop scenario and trap Palestinians into thinking that there is no other solution.
Meanwhile, Nabil Mikhail, the other panelist on the program, said Palestinians themselves can articulate their “national interests” and advocate a certain agenda, and they do not need the American influence to achieve that.
“I think the Palestinians are recognizing, after many losses, that there is an international consensus emerging - crystallized, consolidated - that really supports the right for a state. So I think they will take real steps to basically implement that national plan,” he stated.
