Matchup between Trump and Oprah would be dream for media: Analyst

A matchup between Donald Trump and Oprah Winfrey -- two superficial US presidential candidates – in 2020 would be a dream come true to the media, according to Myles Hoenig, an American political analyst and activist. 

Trump believes he could easily defeat Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) if he challenged him in 2020, according to a new report, but his allies say Trump should be more concerned about a bid from Winfrey or Joe Biden.

Politico reported Monday that Trump has been speculating with aides and other Republicans about his potential Democratic challengers for the presidency, but has dismissed Sanders as a viable candidate.

Sanders wasn’t a serious threat and would be easy to beat, Trump reportedly told a Republican with close ties to the White House.

Trump, 71, has said that Sanders, 76, will not have the energy required to run for the presidency in 2020.

Hoenig, a former Green Party candidate for Congress, told Press TV on Tuesday that “President Trump is optimistic that he’ll even be in the running in 2020. We haven’t even been through the 2018 elections to know whether he will even represent his party later or if there would be a concerted effort to remove him before hand.”

“For anyone to even be speculating on the presidential election at this point is foolish. Future match ups are whimsical, as nothing is guaranteed to happen. In 2014, who would even have considered Trump as the nominee or Clinton being successfully challenged from within?” he asked.

“In any case, a matchup between Trump and Sanders or Trump and Oprah would be entertaining. Most would have agreed that if it were Sanders and not Clinton, Sanders would have won big. That election was one for the outsiders, if a real estate billionaire and a seasoned politician could pass for outsiders. Clinton represented everything wrong with politics and politicians. The Democrats could not have picked the very worst possible candidate to go against Trump if they tried. She was it,” the analyst stated.

“In 2020 Sanders would have a strong following, but not with the party establishment, where it counts. Like Democratic Party sycophants who still blame Nader for Gore losing to Bush in 2000, the party establishment will do all it can to denigrate and marginalize Sanders. Sanders could go the 3rd party route but, like Nader, would be blamed for any possible loss to the Republicans,” Hoenig noted.

“Oprah, on the other hand, would be a novelty. Party stalwarts would not want to see someone like Michelle Obama, but would drool at an Oprah, who’s far more telegenic and theatric, and in many ways, just as shallow,” he observed.

“A matchup between these two superficial candidates would be a dream come true to the media. The only value they have as candidates is that they each have an audience of dunces, and whose superficial knowledge of policy is only equal to theirs,” the commentator concluded.
