Trump’s North Korea U-turn face saving tactic?
Another flip-flop from US President Donald Trump who has said he is open to talks with North Korea’s leader Kim Jung-un. Trump has announced that he would welcome negotiations with both North and South Korea at the appropriate time. He has emphasized that he would be willing to speak directly with Kim if certain conditions are met. Some may see this as a wag the dog effort on the part of Trump to deflect attention from the explosive book “Fire and Fury” by Michael Wolff which exposes chaos within Trump team and the president’s unpopularity with and notoriety among his own aides.
Turkey, EU see each other as key partners
The foreign ministers of Turkey and Germany have agreed to improve relations soured after a period of high tensions. The apparent bid to restore friendlier ties was made on Saturday when Sigmar Gabriel, Germany's foreign minister, hosted his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu. Turkey is of great importance to the EU, especially when it come to issues such as controlling undocumented migration to Europe,fighting terrorism, and solving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The EU is Turkey's No. one import and export partner. Relations between Ankara and the EU, however, have been strained in part over human rights in Turkey, refugee migration and Turkey's quest for visa-free travel for its citizens across the EU.
