Iranian ice climber Emad Hosseini has shown great displays of physical skills and strength during the 2018 Union Internationale des Associations d'Alpinisme (UIAA) Ice Climbing World Youth Championships, and picked a silver medal at the sports event.

On Sunday and the final day of the competitions in the ski-resort village of Malbun in Liechtenstein, Hosseini participated in the men’s lead contests, and landed in the second position of the chart.

Swiss contestant Lukas Goetz ranked first and was awarded the gold medal.

South Korean ice climber Lim Hyeongsub stood third, and had to settle with the bronze.

Mahdi Taghikhani, another representative from the Islamic Republic of Iran, finished fourth.

The 2018 UIAA Ice Climbing World Youth Championships started on January 6, and finished the next day.

The tournament brought together some 80 athletes from 10 countries, including Iran, Lichtenstein, Russia, South Korea and Switzerland, and was staged in three age groups of under 16, under 19 and under 22 years old.

It was held in men’s lead, women’s lead, men’s speed and women’s speed sections.

Lead climbing, on the other hand, emphasizes on strength and techniques. Climbers go up the ice alone and try to reach a specific end point within a given amount of time.

To practice the sport at the highest level of competition, it takes athletes with strategic insight, power, precision and full commitment.

Speed climbing is a race in its purest form. Two contestants face each other while moving up the ice in this disciple, and the faster climber wins.
