The Islamic Republic of Iran is set to host an international 7-a-side football tournament late next year, with national men’s teams from various Asian countries heading to the country for the event.
Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Sports Federation for the Disabled, Mohammad Reza Golshani, said on Saturday that the competition is scheduled to open next December in Kish Island in the Persian Gulf, and preparations are underway in order to put sports facilities in order and send out the invitations,.
He added that his federation plan to sign a new head coach for the Iranian men’s national 7-a-side football team in order for the squad to have a remarkable performance throughput the tournament.
The 7-a-side football is a form of association football for athletes with cerebral palsy and other neurological disorders, namely stroke and traumatic brain injury.
Matches consist of two 30-minute halves, with a 15-minute interval, and are played with modified FIFA rules.
