The Daesh Takfiri terrorists have killed at least two members of Afghan security forces and inflicted injuries on nearly a dozen others, including civilians, in an ambush carried out in the eastern province of Nangarhar, officials say.

The terror attack began on Saturday when a rocket, suspected to be a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG), was fired toward a local television and radio station in the provincial capital Jalalabad, said Attahullah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor.

He added that following the rocket blast, security forces rushed to the scene but two further explosions hit the building, which claimed the lives of a member of the intelligence service and the director of the Jalalabad intelligence department.

The deadly attack wounded five police personnel, two members of the intelligence service and three civilians, Khogyani said.

In a statement released shortly after the ambush, the terror group, which has suffered a total defeat in Iraq and Syria, claimed responsibility for the attack, which hit “the building of Inekas radio station in Jalalabad city.”

Daesh, which has become notorious for its brutality, began establishing a notable presence in Afghanistan almost a year after making sweeping land grabs in Syria and Iraq in 2013 and 2014, respectively. It has mostly been populating Nangarhar, from where it has carried out high-profile brutal attacks against major population centers in the Central Asian country.

Meanwhile, Basir Mujahid, a spokesman for the Kabul police chief, announced that at least three people sustained injuries after a sticky bomb exploded in the Afghan capital, Kabul, adding that the explosive device had been planted on a container belonging to Afghan security forces.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack, but it has the hallmark of the Taliban militant group that has been leading a campaign of death and destruction across the crisis-hit country for the past 16 years.

The Taliban militants were removed from power following the 2001 US invasion of Afghanistan, but they have stepped up activities in recent months, attempting to overrun several regions. Many parts of Afghanistan still remain plagued by militancy despite the presence of foreign troops.
