The lawyer representing the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump says Jared Kushner is the hero in the so-called Russia probe.
By accusing the Jewish White House adviser, the US Senate Judiciary Committee has “jumped the gun,” Abbe Lowell said on Sunday.
“If you look at the content of these emails, he’s the hero. He’s the one who’s saying there shouldn’t be any contact with foreign officials or foreign entities,” Lowell told CNN. “That’s what the Senate Judiciary Committee should pay attention to and not create some sort of partisan gotcha game.”
According to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and ranking Democratic member Dianne Feinstein, Ivanka Trump’s husband received and forwarded emails about WikiLeaks.
He also communicated about a “Russian backdoor overture and dinner invite,” the senators wrote in a letter to his lawyer, demanding additional documents.
Lowell has until November 27 to comply with the request for additional documents.
President Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., recently admitted that he received messages directly from transparency group WikiLeaks ahead of the 2016 election.
An investigation has been launched to find out whether the Russian government coordinated with Trump’s aides after the intelligence community’s conclusion that the Kremlin helped with the New York billionaire’s campaign effort ahead of winning the White House, an allegation dismissed both by Moscow and the president.
