An Iranian nurse and mountaineer has scaled the Mera North Peak in the Mahalangur section of the Himalayas, which is administratively in Nepal's Sagarmatha Zone.
Mostafa Ahmadi, who is a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Tehran’s Baghiatollah Azam Hospital and a member of Soha mountaineering club, could conquer the 6,476-meter-high peak as part of a nine-strong team and within a fortnight.
“I had been taking strenuous aerobic and trekking exercises over the past six months in order to climb the peak. After receiving the necessary permit from the Islamic Republic of Iran Mountaineering & Sport Climbing Federation, we traveled to Nepal as a nine-member team led by Hassan Aminiazar and Esmaeil Esmaeilzadeh,” the 35-year-old Iranian sportsman said.
He added, “I believe sports can greatly improve the quality of stressful jobs like nursing.”
Ahmadi has also conquered Mount Damavand, which is the highest peak in Iran and the Middle East and the highest volcano in Asia, Alam-Kuh mountain, Sabalan in the Alborz mountain range and Ardabil province of northwestern Iran, Oshtorankuh mountain, Azad Kuh peak in Mazandaran province of northern Iran, Mount Binalud in Khorasan Razavi province of northeastern Iran, Shir Kuh peak southwest of the central Iranian city of Yazd, and Alvand Kuh in western Iran.
Last March, he ascended Imja Tse, better known as Island Peak, in Sagarmatha National Park of the Himalayas of eastern Nepal.
