Australia seeking to avoid responsibility on refugees: Lawyer

The Australian government does not respect the rights of refugees who have fled their countries because of the foreign policy of Australia and the United States, says a lawyer.

“Australia [is] trying to avoid responsibility for its foreign policy and its participation in US military operations throughout the Middle East and other regions,” Barry Grossman told Press TV on Tuesday.

The international lawyer also said if Australians were concerned about the number of people who were trying to migrate to Australia, “they ought to pressure their representatives in parliament to embrace a more realistic foreign policy that isn’t creating humanitarian crisis in so many countries.”

Asylum seekers left to their own devices by the Australian government on Papua New Guinea (PNG)’s Manus Island have reached out to the international community for help as the situation there rapidly deteriorates.
