Concerns in Qatar over potential military takeover
The dispute between Qatar and its Arab adversaries including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt remains at an impasse months after its beginning. The clam surrounding the dispute has recently fostered speculations that Saudi Arabia and its allies might be planning to launch a military attack on Qatar. The Qatari emir has warned against any military confrontation over the dispute between his country and the Saudi-led coalition, saying this would only plunge the region into chaos.
Impacts of Israel’s 'Greater Jerusalem bill'
Israel has delayed a vote on the so-called "Greater Jerusalem bill". If passed, it would annex to the city of Jerusalem al-Quds 3 major mega-settlement cities which together house around 140,000 Israelis. Adding the Israelis to the population of Jerusalem al-Quds, the bill would allow them to vote in local elections. The purpose is to ensure a Jewish majority in the city. The bill has drawn harsh criticism from Palestinians and the supporters of the two-state solution. While the wording of the bill means the settlements would be annexed to Jerusalem al-Quds, activist group Peace Now says “The bill is a de facto annexation of these territories to Israel, even if it would be possible to argue that this will not constitute de jure annexation.”
