The Saudis and the Americans perceive the Popular Mobilization Units as the “main threat” and “stumbling block” in the way of forming “a new political bloc in Iraq” to preserve the US-Saudi interests in the Arab country, says a commentator.
That is US President Donald “Trump’s new policy” to work hand in glove with the Saudis to severely subvert and “undermine Iraq,” Zayd al-Isa told Press TV on Tuesday.
The US is trying to encourage Saudi Arabia to interfere in the internal affairs of Iraq, he said.
On Sunday, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, that the foreign fighters in Iraq needed to go home. By foreign fighters, Tillerson meant to Hashd al-Sha’abi (the Popular Mobilization Units), an Iraqi state-sponsored umbrella organization composed of some 40 groups, which are mainly Shia Muslims and have played a great role in the liberation of Daesh-held areas in Iraq.
