Iran men’s national futsal team has posted its second resounding win in the 2018 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal Championship qualification tournament, and found a place in next year's international tournament.
On Tuesday evening, the Iranians, who had defeated Afghanistan 8-2 in their opening Group B fixture of the South & Central Zone in Shahid Poursharifi Arena of the northwestern Iranian city of Tabriz two days earlier, routed the Tajik side 12-2.
Farhad Tavakoli, Abolghasem Orouji, Mehran Alighadr and Mehdi Javid scored a brace each for the Iranian squad, domestically known as Team Melli Futsal.
Tohid Lotfi, Shahab Talebi, Saeed Ahmad Abbasi and Ali Asghar Hassanzadeh jabbed a goal apiece.
Asian powerhouse Iran had been pitted against Afghanistan and Tajikistan in Group B of the South & Central Zone of the 2018 AFC Futsal Championship qualification.
The 2018 AFC Futsal Championship, which will be the 15th edition of the games, will take place between February 6 and 18 next year in Chinese Taipei.
Team Melli Futsal holds a record of 11 championship titles, and the team has enjoyed much success in recent years.
